Everyday, thousands of dogs get lost, escape or dog-napped from their home. We are all to familiar with the poster on the telephone pole with the plea, "Family Pet Lost, Please Help, Reward Offered". Many times, these pets are just down to street in some one's home, at a local shelter, animal control or taken to an animal hospital. Some are injured and some are stolen in a pitiful extortion attempt to claim the reward money. In the Houston area alone, there are over a dozen shelters that your dog can end up in and it is nearly impossible to search all of them.
To insure your dog gets back to you, you must take the following steps.
Step 1: TAG Your Pet
Make sure your pet wears an identification tag at all times. A rabies tag is required, but often, the pet is found after hours when the clinic is closed. An additional tag with your phone number is an added insurance you will recover your pet.Step 2: Microchip Your Pet
Collars and tags can fall off, or be taken off. The microchip is safe, never requires batteries and almost every animal hospital and shelter has a scanner that can safely read the information on the chip. It is imperative that once you microchip your pet, you also register with a national database. I prefer the AKC database for registrations and your dog does not have to have a pedigree to use it.Step 3: GPS Trackers
Just out is the Spotlight GPS PET Locator. It is the only GPS Locator that is also in sync with the AKC national database so that your pet's microchip and GPS Locator will be registered with the same system. They have two plans, one for the homebody and another for the escape artist. These pet trackers are great to locate your pet quickly and safely, but again, they can be removed if your pet is stolen. That is why they should also be microchipped. The Spotlight GPS Pet Locator is available through this link and if you order through my link you will also get the following bonuses:GPS Pet Locator
